Dr Susan Crabtree

PhD, RM, BM, MA (Midwifery)

In my 25+ year midwifery career I have worked across the scope as a midwife;

  • Community based practice (LMC)
  • Homebirth
  • Rural Locum
  • Primary Birthing Units
  • Secondary and Tertiary Hospitals
  • South Sudan with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders)

And contracted to many of the agencies you might come across;

  • Midwifery Council of New Zealand
  • NZ College of Midwives
  • ACC
  • Coroner
  • DHBs
  • Ministry of Health
  • World Health Organisation

I can offer a comprehensive discovery process, focused on you and your practice. Collaboratively, we will help you design a Strategic Plan that prioritises your needs and your business sustainability.

Should you need it, I will provide experienced guidance throughout any investigation or notification process. I have a true understanding of how stressful the processes can be, not only through my contract work but also having experienced a High Court process first hand early my Midwifery career.

Every midwife needs a support person who can help them. Midwifery is a roller-coaster of highs and lows. When things go wrong it can be devastating for all involved. For a midwife it's a time that you recognise that you don't know what you don't know and that you need help.

Sue was that person for me. The College and Council are there in their professional roles but you need more. Understanding the process and good communication is paramount. Midwives need good support if they are going to survive and grow old in the profession.
